Thanks to Mahke I took this test and came out with the following:

depressed, introverted, neat, needs things to be extremely clean, observer, perfectionist, not self revealing, does not make friends easily, suspicious, irritable, hates large parties, follows the rules, worrying, does not like to stand out, fragile, phobic, submissive, dislikes leadership, cautious, takes precautions, focuses on hidden motives, good at saving money, solitary, familiar with the dark side of life, hard working, emotionally sensitive, prudent, altruistic, heart over mind, unadventurous

Which sounds a lot to me like the opposite of the Radiohead song “Fitter, Happier“.  And also a lot like me. Fuck.

Botfly Maggots and you

April 23, 2007

I was talking to Ted tonight about parasites in the Amazon (spurred on by some show called “I Shouldn’t Be Alive”), and came across this:

Awesome! If you liked seeing the parasite burrow out of the ant’s skull in the Planet Earth series on Discovery, wait until you see this shit. Horrifically gross and yet highly entertaining. It’s the closest thing us men will ever get to motherhood, next to being Arnold Governator in Junior, anyway. Giving birth to a living maggot. Can’t beat that.

If you’re not interested in giving birth to bot flies, I would suggest staying away from Mexico, Central, and South America. And if that won’t keep you away, there’s always this, this and this. [Disclaimer: Jesus fucking Christ that’s gross. AND COOL!]

Shooting

April 19, 2007

I some how ended up on Fox News tonight while watching tv, and I was treated to a few minutes of some show called Red Eye. The hosts were talking about Cho Seung-Hui, the kid who committed the shootings at Virginia Tech, and about the videos and pictures he had sent in to NBC. Talk about disgusting. Not Seung-Hui, but the people on the show. The hosts were taking shots at him, ridiculing him, comparing his voice to that of Napoleon Dynamite’s. Really professional, really mature. They went on to off-handedly call him “nuts” and “psycho”, claiming that his writings shouldn’t even be acknowledged, as they’re just ramblings of some worthless lunatic. They said he should be “shamed out of existence”. Like turning the other cheek is going to solve everything.

That type of of ignorance and complete insensitivity is what has lead people like Seung-Hui to to lash out violently, rather than seek out legitimate help from those who care.

Instead of deriding him on national TV (ironically, like a bunch of school bullies), why don’t you think about what caused him to do what he did, to analyze who he was and what happened to him, find out what horrible event in his life damaged him so badly that he felt compelled to exact revenge on more than thirty random people? What made him who he was? More importantly, why wasn’t he receiving adequate help?

He was a human being with problems that needed to be addressed. There’s no excuse for killing innocent people, but mental illness makes him just as much of a victim as everyone else.

Again, I think it reflects upon our society these days. They say that empathy is what makes you human; caring for others, putting yourself in their shoes. It seems that Seung-Hui lost his capacity to empathize, and the same goes for the sad shits out there like the people on Fox. A little compassion somewhere along the line might have stopped all of this from happening. You never know.

What I do know is that if things don’t change, things like this are going to become even more commonplace than they already are. If only I had that much faith left in humanity…

God damn it, registerfly

April 15, 2007

Cry with me fellow internet geeks; I was looking to transfer over the suckerpunched domain to Registerfly since they’re cheap and effective, and I was mid-transfer when I found out that they had gone tits up and their ICANN accreditation was revoked.

I don’t even know what ICANN means, but it’s something official, and so I assume it means the officiates of the internets have deemed the company not worthy. Why? Because the two owners of Registerfly were apparently gay lovers and now they’re having a gay lover’s spat, and thusly, there was a power grab for Registerfly. I’m not even kidding.

You know, some times it’s hard to make decisions about which company to go with over the net. Who is reliable, who is trustworthy. Everybody’s heard of Amazon. I figured everybody had heard of Registerfly. They seemed to be well regarded when I looked them up on Google. But I forgot one thing. No where in my quest for a quality domain registrar did I consider the “gay lover” factor. Or any type of lover, for that matter. I mean, had anyone thought of it? I suggest Amazon stockholders look into the owners of that company just in case. Perhaps it’s owned by a British pedophile and 12 year old Thai hooker. Who knows! You can’t trust anybody these days.

All I know is that $7.99 of my precious funds are in some sort of internet limbo and it sucks.
